Mercedes Benz 450 SLC 5.0 in for Pit Stop

We get to see some truly great cars here at Classic Heroes and sometimes the forgotten ones.  We have a love of any homologation special and few remember these rare cars.

Mercedes needed a lighter and more powerful version of the C107 for Group 4 rallying and the 1978 World Rally championship. The 450 SLC 5.0 was the answer.

Alloy bonnet, boot-lid and doors helped reduce weight by 113kg and a more powerful all alloy, 5025 CC, V8 engine built.

These cars competed as works cars during 1979, 1980 and 1981 and enjoyed success with drivers such as Hannu Mikkola, Bjorn Waldergard in the South American Rally, African Safari Rally and the Ivory Coast Rally.<

An old friend of Classic Heroes is competing in the Atlas Rally – Morocco and the car has made a routine pit stop with us. We will be checking the car over thoroughly and carrying out any required routine maintenance.

We wish him the very best of luck on this event.
