The torque of the town.
We've always loved an underdog, although one would argue that is an unfair title for this glorious 525 Eta. In this case, a different peculiarity is measured. Not its horsepower or ultimate top speed, but just how little fuel it could use whilst still being ranked as a performance saloon.

The demanding US market required BMW's engineers to develop a fuel efficient 5-series saloon. The net result was the E28 525 Eta -Eta being the scientific Greek word for efficiency.
The engineers in Munich set about developing the already popular 5 series, reworking the powerplant to prioritise fuel efficiency, whilst ensuring their established clients would in no way be disappointed with the performance. The 525 e was the result. A low friction, high compression, stroked 2.7 litre version of the M20, 6-cylinder engine was developed with the main brief being to achieve high torque figures. The 525 e produced 127 HP, 240 Nm of torque whilst achieving 34 MPH per 1000 RPM in top. In 1983, figures of over 40 MPG were unheard of from any sporty family saloon car.
This 525e is well known amongst BMW Car Club members having been restored by a member and regularly competed in concourse events. The body shell restoration is documented in a book showing the very high level of restoration and attention to detail. The interior is as new and the paintwork cosmetics are to show standard.

As part of the preparation work being carried out by our workshop, some mechanical and underside cosmetic restoration work will be carried out and documented to add to the already lovely history file.
We will be carrying out an inspection II service, new coolant, new brake fluid, new cambelt and pulley, brake calipers rebuilt, front and rear suspension components and sub-frames powder coated, new front to rear fuel pipes and brake pipes ensuring this beautiful 525 Eta is not just mechanically turnkey but also preserved for the next generation to enjoy without any nasty surprises.
Finally the structure of the car will be protected with a clear cavity wax.
This Eta will be handed over with all its spare keys, tools, original radio, correct service wallet, all handbooks, manuals, service book, book documenting the restoration, original sales brochures, magazine featuring this actual Eta, price list and document file.
Our Thoughts
The Eta forgoes flamboyance and superficial trends designed to woo the impressionable, it simply charms with its unabashed honesty.
