Scramble!

The Bicester Heritage Scramble. The infamous WW2 RAF bomber training station turned Mecca for all things automotive in Britain. If Bicester isn’t already on your radar, it really ought to be. Our own Bomber Command Barney attended Saturdays meeting in Oxfordshire – we thought we would share a few of the standouts here.

Offside exterior of Citroen DS.

Never has man nor woman arrived so auspiciously as one does in a Citroen DS.

Alpine A110.

The original Alpine A110, what a cracking machine – we are fortunate to have the reimagined 2020 model in the Hero collection.

Series 1 Peugeot 106 Rallye.

This concourse Series 1 Peugeot 106 Rallye was a standout for me, with a plucky little 1.3 8v engine these little Peugeots are guaranteed to put a grin on your face.

Peugeot 1.9 GTI.

More hot-hatches from the French representatives in the form of this Peugeot 1.9 GTI.

Datsun 240Z.

Not often we see the Datsun 240Z on our roads, this gorgeous sports coupe was Japans answer to the Jaguar E-Type.

Ford Sierra RS500 Cosworth.

With the Ford Sierra RS500 Cosworth on our ramps starting to take shape, it’s encouraging to see another example from the blue oval to keep our workshop going.

Ford GT 40.

Ford vs. Ferarri.

Ferarri.

Without putting words in Barneys mouth, I think it’s safe to say that the Panda 4×4 was the star of the show. From the mind of Giorgetto Giugiaro, a prolific designer that brought the world the BMW M1, the Mk I Golf GTI and the Nikon F3 – I encourage you all to google this mans resume, it will blow your mind!

Panda 4x4.

The representatives from Stuttgart were in attendance with an eclectic mix of styles and finishes.

Porsche 359.
Porsche 911 Carrera.
Porsche nearside exterior.

Whilst on the subject of inspired finishes, I would very much like to know the story behind this Alfa Romeo’s nose art.

Alfa Romeo.

Of course, an historic motoring event would not be complete without our two wheeled friends, that provided affordable travel to the post war masses – they’re also rather jolly good fun!

Royal Enfield motorbike.
Honda S800.

Another rare attendee from Japan.

Alpina C2 2.7.

An Alpina C2 2.7 in full livery – I had to share at least one Alpina, didn’t I?

Plymouth hotrod classic car.

If you have enjoyed this post, I would urge you all to book your tickets to the next Sunday Scramble on October 6th 2024 – If you see Barney, be sure to give him a wave!
